From 20 to 27 October, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (Ukrstat) will organise the first European Statistics Week in Ukraine: a series of public and expert events exploring the role of official statistics in public administration, economic development and Ukraine’s European integration.
The Week will start on 20 October, European Statistics Day, which is celebrated on yearly basis by countries across the European Statistical System. The day was established in 2016 with the support of Eurostat, and this year marks its 10th anniversary.
For Ukraine, the Week is an opportunity to broaden the conversation about official statistics – not only as a system of indicators, but also as a foundation for decisions made by government, businesses and society.
What will happen during the Week:
The programme will include several formats:
- public lectures by Ukrstat management and European statisticians at leading Ukrainian universities;
- expert discussions on the development of Ukrainian statistics and its future within the European Statistical System;
- participation in academic events and meetings with key data users.
The programme will bring together partners from Sweden and Estonia supporting EU4Statistics Ukraine Programme, as well as representatives of the European statistical community.
Ukraine joins a Europe-wide initiative
European Statistics Day is marked every year by institutions across the European Statistical System. Eurostat traditionally prepares its own programme for the occasion, including thematic webinars, podcasts, competitions and information materials. This year’s agenda will be announced closer to 20 October. The Ukrainian Week will form part of this programme and contribute to the wider professional dialogue on statistics across Europe.
Together with its European partners, Ukrstat plans to make European Statistics Week an annual event. Its aim is to encourage more direct dialogue between those who produce statistics and those who use them, while also showing more clearly how official statistics connect with government decisions, business activity, research and people’s everyday lives.
At the same time, the Week is part of the European integration of Ukrainian statistics. Quality, comparability, professional independence and accessibility of data are essential for Ukraine’s successful integration into the European statistical space.
The detailed agenda and information on registration for public events will be announced separately.
