Geographical coverage

Data on the calculation (estimate) of the population cover all regions of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. Data on the natural and migratory movements of the population were formed on the basis of available administrative data without taking into account the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and part of the temporarily occupied territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Methodology and definitions

Available population - the population that is in a certain territory at the time of the census, taking into account persons temporarily residing (provided their absence from the place of residence does not exceed 12 months).

Permanent population - the population that permanently resides at the time of the census in a certain territory, taking into account those temporarily absent, if their absence from the place of residence did not exceed 12 months.

The average number of the population(available/permanent) is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the number at the beginning and end of the observation period.

Calculations (estimates) of the population are carried out monthly at the beginning of each month and annually as of January 1 on the basis of available administrative data and on the basis of the results of the last population census, to which the number of live births and arrivals to a certain territory is added and the number of deaths and exits from this territory is subtracted territory

The total increase (decrease) in the number of the population is the sum of the natural increase (decrease) and migration increase (decrease).

Natural population growth (decrease) is the difference between the number of live births and the number of deaths.

Information on the number of live births and deaths (including children under the age of 1) was compiled based on the data of civil status records provided by the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

Migration increase (reduction) of the population is the difference between the number of arrivals in a certain territory and the number of those leaving its borders.

Information on the number of arrivals and departures is generated based on the registration/deregistration data of the place of residence provided by the registration authorities (executive bodies of the village, settlement or city council, village mayors (if the executive body of the village council has not been established in accordance with the law)).
